Break the cycle of overconsumption. Wash your spoon.
I won't use plastic spoons!
This plastic spoon is just the beginning. Our consumer choices have an influence on the industries that drive pollution and overconsumption. Together, we can help break the cycle of overconsumption. Sign the pledge and share the video.
Earth Overshoot Day fell on August 8th, marking the point this year when we went into ecological debt. With over four months to go in 2016, we had already spent the resources Earth produces to sustain us for the year.
Overshoot Day has arrived earlier and earlier every year since the early 1970s.
We can’t maintain this deficit. We need to turn this around.
So think about the life of a plastic spoon. The time it takes to make and travel across the planet, the resources and energy burned every step of the way … all to just be used once and discarded? When you think about it, it is not a ‘convenience’ at all.
This of course is about so much more than just a spoon. It is about how we relate to the things we consume. It is about the choices we make and how they influence the inflated role of consumption in our economy.
Actions taken by us all can change that system and create a world where humans live within Earth’s means.
It all starts with you and that spoon. Wash it, re-use it, love it.
