WE CANNOT ALLOW ANOTHER ATTACK ON THE FOREST. WE NEED TO LET IT HEAL
If we give the Forest time, its natural strength will heal the wounds caused by the actions of Jan Szyszko. Working together we stopped the logging of this unique place. It is time for the Forest Defenders to show their strength again! Plantings are “a cure that is worse than the disease”. This is why we must petition to the Environmental Minister, Henryk Kowalczyk, asking him not to turn the primeval forest into a tree plantation. Let him hear the voice of thousands! It is time that the Minister took the side of nature.

DON’T DEVASTATE THIS PRIMEVAL FOREST... AGAIN
Bialowieza Forest has maintained a natural lifecycle for thousands of years. It naturally regulates its flora and fauna. In 2017 the Forest suffered extreme damage, but if we give it time it will be reborn. The logging was a huge tragedy but plantings would be the ultimate blow to the Forest.
PLANTINGS DESTORY NATURAL HABITAT
Plantings create closed-off areas of the forest to protect the growing saplings and sections become off limits to animals and people for many years. Natural biodiversity gives the forest it’s strength and provides resistance to unfavorable conditions or competition.
CLEARING AND PLANTINGS IN THE OLDEST PARTS OF THE FOREST IS ILLEGAL
The law defends the historic, natural parts of the Forest including areas outside the reserves and National Park. Where old trees have been unlawfully logged, planting new beds has no place. Leaving these areas as they are will allow the last lowland natural forest in Europe to renew itself.
WILL YOU JOIN US IN THE FIGHT FOR THE WILD BIALOWIEZA FOREST?
I am writing to you to stop the further degradation of the Bialowieza Forest. Unnatural tree plantings in areas of logging are contrary to the applicable provisions of law, including Natura 2000.
According to information from non-governmental organizations, at least one in three forest districts of Białowieża Forest has been marked for the use of plantings, in areas of over 100-year old tree stands within the framework of "restitution of stands in the areas of bark beetle infestation". I would like to point out that the implementation of this concept is a part of Forest Management, which is the subject of a dispute with the European Commission and would also be a violation of the provisions of the Court of Justice of the European Union.
I am calling on you not to follow the infamous path of your predecessor, but to take effective action to protect Bialowieza Forest and prevent the escalation of the conflict with the European Union. Bialowieza Forest is not only one of the best preserved natural forests of Europe, our natural heritage, but also home to many people. Only the Forest as a viable natural and tourist resource, can ensure stable development of this region and ensure a positive future for its inhabitants. Transforming the Forest into an economic forest and plantation of timber will destroy this future.
