Why is this important?

For years, oil and gas giants like BP and Shell have used tax loopholes to avoid paying what they owe. Recently, the Chancellor put a stop to it — and the hundreds of millions this raises will go straight to ordinary people struggling with the cost of living crisis.

But there’s an upcoming vote on cutting carbon emissions by 87% by 2040 that the fossil fuel companies are trying to block.
