Boulder being placed in the sea to deter destructive fishing vessels

UK Government: Protect our ocean at home and abroad

The government has delayed protecting our seas for over a year, so it's time to turn the pressure up. Will you tell Environment Secretary Angela Eagle and Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband to ban destructive fishing in UK waters and defend our ocean globally?

Why is this important?

Right now, industrial fishing fleets are allowed to plunder most of the UK’s Marine Protected Areas. Their massive nets destroy vital habitats and kill precious wildlife, in places that should be safe havens.

We know our seas can recover when we give them a chance. Greenpeace has placed a huge boulder barrier to stop destructive fishing vessels from destroying marine habitats – but we shouldn't have to do the Government's job for them.

The Environment Secretary has the power to ban industrial fishing in UK waters, and the Foreign Secretary has the platform to push for stronger ocean protections on the global stage.

Proven solutions already exist – all that’s missing is the political will to turn them into reality. Send a joint email urging the ministers to defend our ocean, from UK waters to the high seas.
