The world is in a plastic pollution crisis. In New Zealand and globally, our oceans have become choked with single use plastics such as bags, bottles, straws and other packaging. These items - used for just a tiny window of time on land - go on to wreak havoc in the marine environment, putting our precious ocean life at risk.
But while many of us are working hard to reduce our own plastic use, powerful corporates including Coca-Cola, Unilever, Nestle, Procter & Gamble are profiting from producing single-use plastics and are trying to weaken legislation aimed at reducing it.
There is a better way, and together we can make it a reality.
Together, we’ve already won a ban on single-use plastic bags. This was a huge victory for people-power, and for our oceans.
Now we’ve crowdsourced a Plastic Free NZ vision that tackles the whole issue of single-use plastic pollution, and we need you to help make it a reality.
We need to reduce the amount of plastic that’s being produced, eliminate the top polluting plastics completely, and create a reusable nation. Join the movement to get a nationwide strategy that will eliminate single-use plastic pollution here in Aotearoa.
