We only have until 31 March 2019 to urge our National Air Quality Officer to withdraw Eskom's licence to kill. New Greenpeace research reveals that the air pollution from Eskom's coal-fired power stations is responsible for approximately 420 premature deaths per year in Gauteng, and many more in coal regions. Our National Air Quality Officer has the power to stop this.
Eskom is once again applying for postponements from complying with South Africa’s already weak air-quality legislation. The National Air Quality Officer will soon decide whether Eskom is granted another postponement or not. She must act now to protect our health, and the health of our children. Tell her Eskom must comply with air-quality legislation.
