Kenyans are facing a crisis within a crisis; we demand action on food security

The growing threat of extreme weather events such as the recent floods, the second wave of locusts that is 20 times bigger than the first, coupled with COVID-19 pandemic restrictions have created a perfect storm for an already broken food system in Kenya.

Food security is at the top of the President's big four agenda. The Ministry of Agriculture should purchase maize from smallholder farmers, instead of importing. The government needs to tap into the local resilience of smallholder farmers who produce most of the food, to build greater resilience into Kenya's food system to better endure a crisis in the future.

Join us as we call on the Ministry of Agriculture to take action and put in place structures and measures that will safeguard Kenya’s food system from shocks.
